Munich Virome Research Consortium
The Munich Virome Research Consortium is an exciting new project aiming to bring together researchers in the Germany who work on virome and microbiome research, and encourage communication and collaboration. Want to join the discussion? Have a look at our forum!
VIROME THERAPY
Multidrug-resistant bacteria could kill 10 million people per year by 2050. One way to avoid this threat is to find new therapeutics, as the development of novel antibiotics is both slow and expensive. The relative ease by which phages can be isolated from the environment and their high specificity, reducing the risk of microbiota getting damaged, suggest phage therapy as an alternative to antibiotics.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Many of our members are part of CRC 1371, which aims to understand the functional relevance of microbiome signatures and to determine their precise contribution in a disease-specific manner.

NEW CONCEPTS IN PROKARYOTIC VIRUS-HOST INTERACTIONS
FROM SINGLE CELLS TO MICROBIAL COMMUNITIES
In spring 2020, the Senate of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) has announced the establishment of a new Priority Programme entitled “New Concepts in Prokaryotic Virus-host Interactions – From Single Cells to Microbial Communities” (SPP 2330).
